It was great to sleep for most of the night! And have a good breakfast. Group 1 are already off to Lukla, to start trekking. We will follow tomorrow. So today we explore Kathmandu more.
This posting includes pics of and from the hotel, the Tibet Lodge.
We were excited to see that this is where the famous 1996 Breashears IMAX team stayed before heading up Everest. That team included Jamling Norgay, son of Tensing. Jamling's book, "Touching my father's soul" is an excellent account of the IMAX team's expedition, as well as a thought provoking and interesting description of Buddhist ceremonies and beliefs, particularly those related to Everest. The mountain is not a lump of rock to be conquered, but rather a goddess to be respected, and if you are worthy, you might be afforded the opportunity to ascend to the summit. The IMAX team certainly showed courage and a caring spirit in their involvement in rescue operations, unlike the ill-fated SA team.
So today we are off to Durbar Square; if we are lucky we might glimpse the living goddess Kumari.
