Today we arrived in Gorak Shep; it felt like the mountains ere starting to close in all around us. We passed by chortens which are memorials to those who have died on Everest, eg Scott Fischer in 1996. After a brief lunch we went on to Everest Base Camp. This marks the furthest point out of the trek, and both groups will now start heading for home. There was much jubilation on having reached Base Camp, and a combined group photo was taken. It was great to see the beautiful blue ice on the glacier and high on the towering peaks all around. We were allowed a short peek at Everest, but clouds and later snow hid most views, and the day was quite gruelling overall.
